Community Standards

1. Purpose and Scope
1.1 Mission Alignment
- OJAI exists to support environmental and conservation organizations and coalitions by enabling collaboration, knowledge sharing, and impact reporting.
- These Community Standards (“Standards”) apply to all use of the OJAI platform, websites, and related services (“Services”) and are incorporated by reference into the Terms of Service.
1.2 Applicability
- These Standards apply to all users and organizations, including Admins, Editors, Members, and Viewers.
- Violations may result in content moderation actions and/or account restrictions, suspension, or termination, as described in Section 7 (Enforcement).
2. Community Expectations
2.1 Respectful Conduct
- Treat others with respect and professionalism; harassment, threats, hateful or discriminatory conduct are prohibited.
- Debate ideas, not people; avoid personal attacks or doxxing.
2.2 Accuracy and Integrity
- Strive for accuracy in shared resources, data, maps, and stories.
- Clearly label speculative or emerging information and provide citations where possible.
2.3 Environmental Focus
- Use the Services in ways that advance environmental and conservation outcomes.
- Do not undermine the community's mission with unrelated or harmful content or activities.
3. Prohibited Content
3.1 Harassment and Hate
- Content that insults, demeans, bullies, threatens, or harasses individuals or groups is prohibited.
- Hate speech targeting protected characteristics (e.g., race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, disease, age, sexual orientation, gender, or gender identity) is prohibited.
3.2 Violence and Criminal Activity
- Content that promotes, incites, or depicts violence, self-harm, or criminal activity is prohibited.
- Instructions for illegal activities or procurement of weapons or contraband are prohibited.
3.3 Misinformation and Harmful Practices
- Content that materially misleads about environmental risks, scientific findings, or safety practices in a manner likely to cause harm is prohibited.
- Fraud, scams, phishing, and deceptive schemes are prohibited.
3.4 Sexual Content and Exploitation
Sexually explicit content, sexual exploitation, or content sexualizing minors is strictly prohibited.
3.5 Intellectual Property Infringement
- Do not post content that infringes copyrights, trademarks, or other rights. Respect licenses and attribution requirements.
- Follow the DMCA process described in the Terms of Service for reporting or contesting alleged infringement.
3.6 Privacy Violations
Do not share personal data or confidential information of others without authorization; do not engage in doxxing.
3.7 Malware and Technical Abuse
- Do not upload malware, conduct phishing, brute force, or attempt to bypass security measures.
- Do not disrupt the Services or attempt to access accounts or data without authorization.
4. Prohibited Activities Specific to OJAI's Mission
4.1 Misaligned Political Activity
- Partisan political campaigning unrelated to environmental and conservation outcomes is prohibited.
- Lobbying or advocacy unrelated to environmental or conservation causes is prohibited.
4.2 Unrelated Commercial Solicitation
Unsolicited advertising or commercial solicitation for products or services unrelated to environmental collaboration is prohibited.
4.3 Scraping and Surveillance
- Data scraping, harvesting, or automated extraction of content or personal data without prior written consent is prohibited.
- Surveillance or monitoring activities that infringe privacy or civil liberties are prohibited.
4.4 Harmful or Misaligned Use
Activities that promote discrimination, harassment, or misinformation, or that conflict with the platform's environmental mission, are prohibited.
5. User-Generated Content (UGC) and Attribution
5.1 Permitted UGC
Users may post text, photos, videos, audio, datasets, event listings, resource files, maps, and comments consistent with these Standards and the Terms of Service.
5.2 Ownership and Rights
You retain ownership of your UGC. You grant OJAI the licenses stated in the Terms of Service to host, display, adapt, and distribute UGC.
5.3 Attribution and Licensing
- Provide accurate attribution for datasets, maps, and third-party materials, and honor license terms (e.g., Creative Commons, open data licenses).
- Clearly label AI-generated content where doing so would avoid confusion or where required by law or policy.
5.4 Sensitive Content
Obtain appropriate permissions for content that includes personal data, indigenous knowledge, or sensitive ecological data (e.g., locations of endangered species), and follow applicable laws and ethical guidelines.
6. AI-Generated Content and Automated Tools
6.1 Allowance and Responsibilities
- AI-generated content is allowed, provided it does not violate intellectual property rights, promote harmful practices, or include discriminatory or offensive material.
- You are responsible for verifying the accuracy of AI-generated content and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and these Standards.
6.2 Moderation Assistance
- OJAI may use automated tools, including artificial intelligence, to assist in detecting, prioritizing, and reviewing potential policy violations; human review may follow.
- Automated tools may err; report concerns via the channels in Section 8 (Reporting).
7. Enforcement and Consequences
7.1 Graduated Enforcement
We use a range of actions based on severity and context:
- Warnings or education for first or minor violations.
- Content removal, edits, or visibility limits.
- Feature restrictions or temporary suspensions.
- Permanent account termination for severe or repeated violations.
7.2 Immediate Actions
We may immediately restrict or suspend accounts for activities posing legal risk, security threats, nonpayment, or abuse/misuse (see Terms of Service).
7.3 Organizational Accountability
For organizational workspaces, Admins may be notified of violations by users within their organization and may be asked to take corrective action.
7.4 Appeal Process
You may appeal moderation or enforcement decisions by contacting support as described in Section 8. We will review appeals and respond within a commercially reasonable timeframe, typically within Five (5) business days.
8. Reporting and Support
8.1 Reporting Violations
- Report suspected violations, harassment, security issues, or IP concerns to: info@ojai.global.
- For copyright claims, follow the DMCA process in the Terms of Service (Section on DMCA).
8.2 Safety and Urgent Issues
For urgent threats to safety or illegal activity, contact local authorities first. You may also notify us so we can take appropriate platform actions.
9. Data and Privacy Expectations
9.1 Personal Data Protection
Respect privacy and confidentiality. Do not collect, process, or share others' personal data without a lawful basis and authorization.
9.2 Sensitive Environmental and Community Data
Use discretion when sharing precise locations of sensitive habitats, species, or culturally significant sites; follow ethical guidelines and applicable laws.
10. Use of OJAI Content and Tools
10.1 OJAI Content License
OJAI may provide templates, datasets, maps, and documentation subject to a limited, revocable, non-sublicensable license as described in the Terms of Service.
10.2 No Misrepresentation
Do not imply endorsement by OJAI or Forge Blue Inc. without prior written consent. Do not misrepresent your identity or affiliations.
11. Transparency and Corrections
11.1 Corrections and Retractions
If you discover errors in posted resources or datasets, correct them promptly or add clarifications. When appropriate, include revision notes or changelogs.
11.2 Conflicts of Interest
Disclose material conflicts of interest when posting content that could be perceived as promotional or advocacy for a specific organization or product.
12. Children and Age Restrictions
12.1 No Users Under Thirteen (13)
The Services are not directed to children under thirteen (13), or under sixteen (16) where applicable. Report any suspected underage use to info@ojai.global.
13. Regional Considerations
13.1 EU/UK Consumers
Nothing in these Standards limits non-waivable consumer rights under EU/UK law. Local law may provide additional rights or remedies.
13.2 Local Laws and Customs
Users must comply with local laws and regulations and consider local cultural sensitivities when posting or organizing activities.
14. Administration and Updates
14.1 Role of Administrators
Organizational Admins are responsible for managing users in their workspaces and enforcing these Standards within their communities.
14.2 Changes to These Standards
We may update these Standards to reflect evolving community needs, legal requirements, or product changes. Material updates will be communicated via email, in-product notices, or postings on our website. Continued use after the effective date signifies acceptance.
